Pepe Reina, the Liverpool goalkeeper, has warned Barcelona that he and his teamates are ready to wage war in order to win the up coming mouth watering Champions League tie.
Reina began his career at Barca and is fully expecting a hostile reception at the Camp Nou but is insisting that everyone at Liverpool is ready and up for it. He stated, “Barca had better be prepared for us to lay seige to them. It’s going to be a war.” Well, that’s all well anf good saying something like that if you go out and do it but we’ve all seen comments like that fall flat on the face.
Reina continued, “Nobody should forget that over the last two years we have done great things in the Champions League and I believe the manager’s theory that we have got nothing to lose and they have got everything to lose.” Couldn’t agree more on that point Pepe.
“It’s a really difficult tie. Obviously everybody has them as favourites but we’ve got a creeping suspicion that we have a chance.”
I’ve said previously on the Soccer Blog that I’ve got a sneaky feeling Pepe could be right on this one. Can’t put my finger on it, just one of those things. I might also stick my neck out by saying again that the winner of this tie could be booking hotels rooms in Athens at the end of May.
Apparently I’m in good company because no other than Ronaldinho fear Liverpool could re-create their 2005 triumph. The Barca superstar has singled out Lverpool’s midfield partnership of Gerrard and Alonso as the main danger. Ronaldinho said, “It would be a mistake not to consider Liverpool as one of the favourites to win this season’s Champions League. Not only have they already won it but they have a team capable of doing it again. The hour of truth has arrived.” Very prophetic!
Don’t know about you but I can’t wait for this one!
