Rooney To Shine, Predicts Ferguson

Posted by The Soccer Blogger as Champions League

It’s hard to believe, but Wayne Rooney hasn’t scored in a European game for Utd since the hat-trick on his European debut against Turkish team Fenerbahce back in 2004.

He is, however, starting to find his form again in the Premiership with four goals in the past 5 games and his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is sure that Rooney will explode in Europe and soon.

Ferguson said, “It will happen for Wayne, he will explode eventually. I hope he can take into this game [against Lille] the form he is showing now. In the last few weeks he has come back to his best.

“We were saying earlier in the season about how Wayne had not scored and then he had that hat-trick at Bolton.

“The stage will not affect Wayne. His temperament is fantastic for a young lad. I have no worries about that.”

Utd secured their place in the last 16 of this year’s Champions League despite losing their last two away games in the group stages, at Celtic and FC Copenhagen. Ferguson will not want to make that 3 away defeats in a row.

Sir Alex added, “We do not want to be making the mistakes we did in those two games.”

“The players know if we don’t take chances in these big ones then you will be left to suffer and this is a big one.”

Ferguson will be even more desperate for Utd to overcome Lille because that would mean Utd can progress to the quarter finals of the competition for the first time since 2003. You can be sure that everyone at Utd thinks that that is far too long.
