Bellamy Will Be Sold By Liverpool

Posted by The Soccer Blogger as English Premiership

Some people really do seem to have a “self-destruct” button built into their make-up. And without doubt, one of those people is Craig Bellamy, the Liverpool and Welsh striker.

It would appear that he will now definitely be sold by Rafael Benítez in an Anfield summer clear-out. Bellamy will only have himself to blame, especially if reports over the weekend of a fight with team mate Jon Arne Riise are true.

It is alleged that Bellamy, who had been drinking (Riise had not) struck Riise with a golf club around the legs over an arguement about kararoke. Well, at least it was something important then!

Benítez was forced to issued a public condemnation of his players conduct. Bet he was thrilled by that! It isn’t something you want to be doing at any time really but the timing couldn’t have been worse, just days away from the game that could go a long way to define Liverpool’s season. Liverpool were in the sunny Algarve, Portugal in preparation for the Champions League “clash of the round” against Barcelona [who lost 2 - 1 at Valencia on Sunday night]. If the timing wasn’t bad enough, it won’t do too much to impress the new owners either. Both Gillett and Hicks were reportedly “incandescent ” when they heard the news. I would imagine that these are gentlemen that don’t take stupidity, such as this, lightly. Bellamy may have already been targeted as a summer casualty now that Liverpool appear to have far greater spending power in the transfer market, but he would appear to have sealed his fate with this latest stunt. I mean it’s not his first, is it? I always thought Benítez was quite brave to take Bellamy on knowing his past record and he must feel extremely disappointed and let down that the player couldn’t be bothered to repay that confidence in him.

You’ve really got to wonder what goes on in Bellamy’s head. For the past week, all the news has been of the unrest at the Nou Camp, with stories of Eto’o, Rijkaard and Ronaldinho. Then Barca go and loss the big game of the weekend in La Liga against Valencia and Liverpool must have been starting to fancy their chances. Seems like a pretty good time to be playing the defending Champions. But oh no, Bellamy turns it all round and puts Liverpool on the front pages for all the wrong reasons just days before the game. Barca must be heaving a huge sigh of relief.

Having been woken from his hotel room with news of the incident, Benítez was furious that such a thing could have happened ahead of such a vital game. He later issued a strongly worded statement in which he confirmed that those players involved would be dealt with severely. Though you’ve got to think that losing a few grand as a fine will be the least of Craig’s problems.

It always amazes me that a guy who is probably earning (and I’m obviously guessing here) say £50,000 ($95,000) per week, which let’s face it, is more than most people earn in a year, can’t act any better than a common thug. They really don’t deserve it, do they?

Time to say “good-bye” Craig and I can’t imagine he’ll be wearing the red shirt again too many times before the end of the season. Who in their right mind would take him on now?

What do you think of Bellamy and other highly paid players who just don’t seem to learn? Leave your comments below.

Heard Bellamy has a tendancy to slice and consequently the matter will be dealt with internally.
