Voronin Set For Anfield Move?

Posted by The Soccer Blogger as English Premiership

If you are to believe the stories doing the rounds at the moment then the Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is going to be joining Liverpool on a four year deal this summer.

Voronin, who is 27, will be a free agent in the summer, and has reportedly already agreed a four-year deal with the Anfield club. Are these the first signs of the Gillett / Hicks era taking shape perhaps. There could be exciting times ahead for Liverpool in the transfer market now that the long protracted deal has gone through, though I must admit, the name of Voronin probably wouldn’t have sprung to mind as a potential target. But then again, I’m not Rafa Benitez!

Voronin currently plays for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen but no-one was available from the German club to confirm further details of the apparent transfer to Liverpool.

Liverpool crushed Leverkusen 6 - 2 on aggregate on their way to winning the Champions League in 2005. Voronin was playing for Leverkusen in both those games. He obviously made some sort of impression on Benitez but have to admit I don’t remember him from that game.
