Liverpool captain and England International, Steven Gerrard stated Wednesday that Liverpool do not fear the current European Champions, Barcelona.

Gerrard, who lifted the trophy himself in Istanbul in May 2005 after what must be the most remarkable comebacks of all time, feels that Liverpool’s contingent of Spanish players, such as Xabi Alonso, together with their manager Rafael Benitez’s knowledge of Spanish football gives them a slight edge. I love confidence!

LFC magazine states that Gerrard said, “A lot of our lads have experience of the Nou Camp so there is no fear factor. We have to go there with confidence, and not worry about Barcelona.”

The first leg of this mouth watering tie takes place at the Nou Camp (or Camp Nou if you’re in Barcelona) on February 21st.

Liverpool are current enjoying a bit of warmer weather training, which means they certainly aren’t in England at the moment! In fact they are in Portugal. Gerrard also stated that, “If you spend too much time worrying about Barcelona it will give you nightmares because they are a great side.

“We know what we are capable of and we know the performance we can come up with on the big occasion.

“We also know that whatever Barcelona say, they are going to be wary of us.”

“We would love to go there and win, we’re not a team that goes anywhere to play for a draw.

“But a draw would not be a bad result for us. A positive result would set us up nicely when we bring them back to Anfield for the second leg.”

Should Liverpool be able to come away from the Nou Camp with any kind of result, one thing is for sure. The atmosphere at Anfield for the second leg will once again be electric and deafening. Anfield seems to be made for special European night. Could this be another in a long list of unforgettable nights?
