how can i improve on my soccer skills?

Posted by The Soccer Blogger as Soccer Training & Skills

I really want to be on the soccer team (middle school) but you have to try out. I can dribble okay and I can strike the ball. The thing is that when I strike the ball, my toe kicks it instead and it leaves a bruise on my toe. I try to kick the ball from where my laces are but it’s harder than I thought. Can someone please help me with this and possibly give me other soccer tips or drills? thanx!

you should deffinitely try-out, you have nothing to lose. if you dont try-out.. you will never know what could have happened. dont be scared for not making the team.. no one cares. if they do.. they will get over it in like a week. you should deffinitely work on your running.. 2-3 miles every other day. but dont kill yourself. also practice hitting the wall with the ball and make sure you receive it back. NEVER EVER be scared of the ball. you will not die if you get hit. practice dribbling the ball.. maybe 2-3 times around a lap. if you know learn how to dribble well and you dont plan on being goalie.. im sure you will be fine. =) wanna be a defender.. build upper body strength and keep your eyes on the ball. wanna be a midfileder.. make sure you are fast and good footwork and if you want to play forward.. make sure you have accuracy and good footwork. I hope this helps =) (sometimes.. its ohkay to hit with your toe.. if its for the good of the team)

Keep practicing, look up some sites where it shows you how to strike the ball. NEVER shoot wih your toe when you’re starting off, bad habit, will make you look bad in try outs as well.

Shooting is only part of try outs. If your coach has scrimmages then makes cuts, it’s mostly just playing the game as a team. Making smart passes, moving into open area, hustling, playing good defense (not diving in, etc), and then shoot when you have it open.

also, if you do plan on being goalie.. have a friend or an adult chuck balls at you. make sure you dont hit the ball away from you so the other team wont have any chances rebounding it.. i suggest you catch it.
