How do I defend someone who has better soccer skills than me during a game?
Posted by The Soccer Blogger as Soccer Training & Skills
Also, if one of my teammates loses there mark, and that mark has the ball, do I stray away from mine to get the ball? What if that player passes to the player I just strayed away from?
Push the player with the ball to their weaker side. To know this you have to keep an eye on their feet during the game. If, they are a good player they will probably try and make body movements to fool you on where they are taking the ball. So, don't fall for it keep your eyes on the ball at all times when defending. If you are not the sweeper and another teammate loses their mark got to the ball and tell the sweeper to cover the person you left. If, your sweeper is experience he/she might already tell you to go to the ball. If, the person you went to guard passes to the person you left try to read the pass and intercept it. Otherwise call down a mid-field to cover one of the players. Also, if you are covering 2 people someone isn't doing their job so make everyone call out their marks. Hope this helps I've only played soccer for 2 years but, I know my stuff and love the game.

To your first question, much depends on your own skills and abilities. Are you a better athlete in some way (speed/endurance?) or are you entirely outmatched?
It also depends on your teammates, their matchups and your team strategy.
In cases where I'm out-matched technically (most of the time!) I'm usually either close or better in fitness, so I simply play a game of staying close, getting in the way, chasing and annoying so that the other player has no choice but to pass away. Few guys can out run me; maybe a sprint or two but I've better endurance for a full game.
The rest of your questions are probably best directed toward your coach / team during a strategy conversation.

well im better than most of my friends at soccer but when they try to trick you, just kick the ball. dont try anything special. he will try to trick you with his legs, just kick it and push him (lightley) out of the way.

For the first question, you put pressure on him, if he goes past you, you continue chasing him. Managers do not get mad when players like Kaka dribble their players, but it's when they stop following him that it becomes annoying.
As for the second question, it depends on the coach, but I would stay on the player I am marking so that if there is someone to blame, it would not be me.

depending on your level of football higher grades defending is more zone than man to man but the important thing to remember is not to dive in stay on your feet, jockey him/her wait for them to make a mistake and then capitalise on it, if they dont stay with them and put the pressure on them they may pass it off or you may chase them down and get the ball either way you have done your job as a defender as for if your teamate losses his mark you have to make a choice based on danger to your goal and if you think you can split them effectivly

Jockey him, Wait until he makes a move or if the ball is far enough from his body so you can kick it away, it takes balance and confidence…If a teammate loses there marker, you get hes marker but you have to pay attention to your marker too like be aware of him passing to ur marker.Goood luck! Just play agressive!!

there is no simple answer to this question… so ill just say intimidation.
stomp on his feet when the referee isnt looking.
tackle him hard and high, and insult him at every opportunity.
when off the ball, trip him as he runs past you.
if all else fails, consider feigning injury - because its always better to go home early than to go home humiliated.
lol.
