How to know if my soccer skills are good enough for highschool soccer
Posted by The Soccer Blogger as Soccer Training & Skills
I used to live in Alabama where our school system never had a soccer team. I did play with a recreational team for three years while I was in elementary school, but when middle school came I had to quit the rec team to concentrate on other sports. But for some reason I have always longed to play school soccer even thought I have only practiced by myself with a soccer ball. I know the rules and the basics like dribbling, passing, and shooting. I even think I am good at them even though I have not been officially taught. I am a good runner and I run long distance and can sprint well. I play hackysack and that has transferred me into being a pretty good juggler with the soccer ball. Of course all of this is my own opinion drawn from watching soccer on tv and reading soccer how-to books. The sad thing is that apart from youth rec teams, I have never been able to train and compare with girls my own age on a competitive level.
Well, recently I moved to Colorado where my high school does have soccer teams. I have started to practicing even more dribbling and passing to rocks and trees since I don’t know anyone yet in my new town. I have occasionally gone to the school’s soccer field to shoot goals. I really have a heart to learn soccer.
My question: What are some standards to know if I am equipped to try out for the high school soccer team? Include details on dribbling, passing, and shooting and other things that I should be able to do in able to have a fair shot at making it. It may seem crazy that I am trying out after little experience on a team, but take in to account that I am definately an athlete with some natural skills in soccer and running.
you have to know how to control the ball at various speeds like sprinting and holding on to it. Work on ur fitness level alot too. high school games are usually running plays and not much control so i recommend working on your speed the most

well, this is the only sport that makes you think you are good when you are really not the best way is just to try out and hope you make it but be confident in yourself and play some soccer! One more thing Run Run Run! It gets you tiered fast so you have to run. Long distance is the best becouse you are jogging a long time and sometimes sprinting so long distance is the best. I would recomend one and a half miles everyday. Than when you get better at running jog with a soccerball the most inportant of all is to belive in yourself becouse if you don`t than you will never make it. Trust me
